Why this converter

Maximum compatibility, without losing control

Universal compatibility

WebP still isn't accepted everywhere - some print services, older software, and email clients reject it outright. JPG works everywhere, no exceptions.

Any background color

Most converters force transparent pixels to white. Here you pick white, black, your brand color, or anything else, with a live preview before you convert.

Adjustable quality

Drag the quality slider and see the estimated result before you commit - trade file size against sharpness to fit your use case.

Private by default

Conversion runs on your browser's own Canvas engine. Images are never sent to a server, so there's nothing to leak and no upload wait.

Batch friendly

Drop in dozens of WebP files, apply the same color and quality to all of them, and download every result together in a single ZIP.

See it before you download

Drag the before/after slider on any converted file to check the matte color and compression against the original.

Free, no limits

Convert as many images as you like - no watermark, no account, no catch.

Process

Three steps, nothing complicated

01

Add your WebP images

Drag and drop .webp files, or click to browse from your device.

02

Pick a background color & quality

Choose the color that fills transparent areas, then set the JPG quality that fits your use case.

03

Convert & download

Grab each JPG individually, or all at once as a ZIP - no sign-up required.

ℹ About WebP → JPG

WebP is a newer, more efficient format that supports both lossy and lossless compression plus transparency, but it isn't accepted everywhere yet. JPG is decades old, universally supported, and remains the safest choice whenever compatibility matters more than file size - though it has no alpha channel, so any transparency must be flattened into a solid color first.

Tip: match the background color to where the image will be placed (white for most web pages, your brand color for a themed page) so the flattened result blends in seamlessly. If the source WebP is animated, only its first frame carries over - JPG doesn't support animation.

Free Online WebP to JPG Converter

imgxcolor's WebP to JPG converter flattens any transparency into a background color of your choice and re-encodes the result as JPG - directly in your browser, with no software and no file uploads. Drop in one WebP or a whole batch, pick a color and quality, and download the results in seconds.

It's built for anyone who needs a WebP to work somewhere that doesn't accept it - older software, certain print and prepress services, some email clients, and a handful of platforms and CMS uploaders still reject or mishandle .webp files outright.

WebP vs. JPG, at a Glance

WebP wins on efficiency, but JPG still wins on being accepted absolutely everywhere.

Why Transparent WebP Images Need a Background Color

JPG's compression algorithm was designed for photographs and has no concept of an alpha channel. When a WebP with transparent areas is converted to JPG, those see-through pixels have to become an actual color - a step called matting. Get the color wrong and you'll see a visible edge or mismatch once the image is placed somewhere else; that's why this tool lets you choose the exact color and preview it first.

Choosing a Quality Setting

  • 90-100% - visually close to lossless, larger file size, best for detailed photography
  • 70-90% - a good everyday balance for web use
  • Below 70% - noticeably smaller files, with visible compression artifacts on detailed images

Use the compare slider on any converted file to check the trade-off before you download.

What Happens to Animated WebP Files

JPG is a still-image format only, so if the source WebP is animated, only its first frame carries over. For everyday photos and single-frame graphics that's a non-issue; for animations, a GIF or video format is the better target.

Privacy - 100% Client-Side

Every conversion runs locally with JavaScript and the Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded, stored, or transmitted, which makes this converter safe for client assets, personal photos, or any file you'd rather not send to a third-party server. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no usage limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does converting WebP to JPG happen on a server?

No. imgxcolor decodes and re-encodes every WebP locally with your browser's Canvas engine, so nothing is ever uploaded and the preview appears instantly.

Why convert WebP to JPG at all?

Compatibility. WebP is smaller and newer, but some older software, print services, email clients, and platforms still reject or mishandle WebP uploads, while JPG is accepted essentially everywhere.

What happens to transparent areas of my WebP?

JPG has no transparency channel, so any see-through pixel has to be filled with a solid color, a process called matting. Pick white, black, or any custom color before converting - the preview updates live.

Can I convert an animated WebP to JPG?

You can, but only the first frame is used. JPG is a still-image format with no animation support, so any additional frames in an animated WebP are discarded during conversion.

Will converting WebP to JPG reduce image quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so some fine detail is discarded - more at lower quality settings. At 80-95% quality the difference is rarely visible. Use the quality slider and the before/after compare view to judge the trade-off yourself.

Do all browsers support reading WebP files?

Nearly all current browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, decode WebP natively, which is what lets this tool read your files entirely on your device.

Can I convert several WebP files at once?

Yes. Drop in as many WebP files as you like, apply the same background color and quality to the whole batch, convert them together, and download every result at once as a ZIP.

Is there a file size or file count limit?

No hard limit beyond what your browser can comfortably handle. The tool is free, has no watermark, and doesn't require an account.
